Of course as soon as the last post went up I thought of something I’d forgotten – anthologies. Anthologies are simply frustrating to review. To begin with I have a hard time reading most anthologies – the story, characters, setting, tense, and voice change every few pages, so it’s difficult to sink into the book as a whole. Single author anthologies are somewhat easier to read, but far less common.

When I started reviewing books I reviewed anthologies story by story, except that most anthologies that I read are large and so the review ends up being long even if the review of each story is short. And then there are the stories that either didn’t leave much of an impression, or that I just had no comment about. So I moved to just highlighting what I liked the best and the least of each anthology. I’m still not sure if it’s the best method, but for now it works and I’ll just keep refining it as I go.

I had to cut the post short this week – there is plenty of interesting things to contemplate in the subject of reviewing[1. because I had to edit out a whole bunch of tangents... ], but the opportunity came in this week to write some articles and earn the cash to feed my new found Supernatural habit. One small step for me, one big step towards the Winchester boys.
