This last week I got a new laptop. My mom ordered it for me back at the end of Janurary, dispite my protests that my current laptop was fine, and it arrived last Friday. I had to housesit that weekend, so I didn’t get to really play with it until Monday. As it turns out my mom must be a bit psychic because my old laptop’s battery gave up the ghost that weekend. I’d been having trouble with it for awhile – sometime in October it started getting fussy about connecting to wireless networks, and ejecting my ipod and CDs. In December the wireless died outright, the conection between the wireless and the motherboard failing. Then, with the battery dying, it became something I couldn’t really use anymore, even though it is still a rather new laptop – I only bought it just over a year ago! Thankfully my old laptop has found a home with my dad, who isn’t bothered by its various failures, and my new laptop was here and ready to take over.

My new laptop is a Studio 15 from Dell. Purple of course. It has twice the space and power as my old laptop. Deciding that perhaps naming something that was 15.4 inches/over five pounds after a dainty fairy had not been a good idea I decided to name it Impa and I spent all day Monday just transfering programs and files from my old laptop to my new one. I’m all set up, but I still feel strange using it – it can’t quite read my mind yet, like a well broken in computer will. I still haven’t gotten used to having the headphone jack being on the side instead of on the front. Tomorrow is the first time I’ll be taking it anywhere with me, so I’ve yet to see how it travels – I’ve even gotten a brand new bag that will hopefully fit it better then my old one. Hopefully this one will last me longer then the last.

It’s been a crazy few weeks. I intended to go right back to posting regularly after the New Years, but then one thing happened after another and I looked up to discover February was already underway. After my last post I went on a trying two week housesitting job, at a place which unfortunately did not have an internet connection. And while I did go a little stir-crazy being so disconnected I got a lot of writing and reading done, adding well over 10k to my current work in progress and blowing through nine books. Spending two weeks off the radar set me off balance, and I feel like I’m only just getting my feet back under me though I won’t really be able to settle in until next week, because I have a mini-housesitting job at a different place this weekend.

Recently I got a Sony Reader 505 and so far I really love it – the screen is magic, and the fact it doesn’t take up much space is going to be great for housesitting. I’ve even discovered another use – it’s handy for video game walkthroughs! No more wasting lots of paper printing them out, and no more having to deal with my laptop while gaming! It’s wonderful, especially for my DS games.

Though I’m currently stall with a case of “I don’t wanna” I feel like I’m making progress with my novel. I’m excited to finish it, something I haven’t ever really been before. Despite the economic craziness I feel like 2009 is going to be a good year, and perhaps even a great one. At least in my life, though I don’t want to jinx things. *knocks on wood*

Oi, well my goal of posting at least every other day fell through, didn’t it? I blame a combination of a wacky sleep schedule, bad cold and new technology. And dialup, can’t forget that dialup. Oh the woes of being a housesitter. At least the NaNo site has been down at the same time, so I don’t feel bad about not patrolling it as much as I like. Of course the next thing that happens after I type that is I check the site to find the forums back up. Oh the irony.

You might have noticed that I mentioned new technology above. After much flip-flopping and fussing I bought a new laptop. I think I am still in shock, and when I’m not reeling from shock I miss my own laptop. It’s a bit odd to consider I have a device resting on my lap that is more powerful then what is currently tangled to my desk in my room. It’s running Vista too, so that takes some time to get used to too. 100-some gb memory(80-something available), AMD Athlon processor, wide screen and an internal cd drive. For the record, I named it Tatl. Cookies to anyone who gets the reference, it’s probably sadly obvious to anyone who knows how I spent my winter in 2000. Gods, was that really 2000? Seems like so long ago… I suppose that I think of those are older because I had that console since ’96.

Heh, don’t mind my ramblings. I’ve been getting all nostalgic lately, I blame it on the month. October does funny things to me. Anyway, new laptop and I’m still learning the ropes, sorting out factory bugs, beating the OS into submission and such. Can’t wait until I get home where there is wireless, then I can really do some damage.

I’m finally moving up a bit in the world – I’ve upgraded my camera and got myself an iPod – a shiny red 4GB nano.

I love my new ipod – it’s small, little weight, very shiny and very easy to use. Especially navigation – the last few mp3 players I’ve had were a pain in the ass to navigate. The click-wheel is just endless amusement for me. I don’t know why I didn’t get an ipod before. I bought this onefrom the apple website so I could get an engraving, also so I could get red. For the curious I choose my favorite line from Lord of the Rings, or rather as much of the line as would fit – Home is behind the world ahead.

My new camera is actually my mom’s old camera, in the grand tradition of our family when mom upgrades, I upgrade. In this case I went from a 2 megapixel point and click with hardly any extra features, to a 4 megapixel with actually modes. The best part is my new camera can take video with sound, something I’ve wanted for a long time. The camera isn’t as small as I wished my next camera to be, but I really can’t complain. Finally, something decent to take to conventions and the like.

I’ll post some pictures I took with it if I can ever get it to talk with my computer. -sigh- software.
